That's not our intention actually. Etcher, the open source app that EtcherPro is using, keeps evolving all the time, so we wanted EtcherPro to be able to keep up. Nevertheless, EtcherPro is hackable by design, so if you have concerns you can write your own software with any level of protection you want. - EP lead designer

I tried Etcher on linux 2-3 years ago. I would love if it had _asked permission_ before making requests back to your servers. Perhaps this is now the case.
Intent does not matter. If it has WiFi and remote access, people will try to break in, and probably succeed. Build a backdoor, and it will be used.
