In the United States there exists a slim majority for much of the country's legislative houses. That indicates at least that there's a good chance if you don't have to right now that in your lifetime you will have to treat the government as adversarial. In all honesty I think everyone should treat the government as an adversarial force when it comes to respecting your privacy or rights. Much of bill of rights was introduced as a response to the concerns of the government's overreach. Built in protections to impede totalitarianism. In that regard, you can't simply rely on the government to legislate towards your interests and assuming that they will is foolish. Creating tools to secure your privacy is essential, not arbitrary. |
