One very interesting feature of older agriculture is the way the fields were split up. With tons and tons of narrow strips of land in the open-field system. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Open-field_system) In Sweden the gradual reforms towards today's uniform, or at least closely situated fields. Took as long as until the 18th century to really become a thing.
I suspect similar reforms elsewhere were just as late. |
