Small objects tend to start out as large objects. If you can get rid of a large object before it becomes a thousand small objects, that's a win.

Oh I'm not suggesting it's not a win by any means. Any debris removed is better. I'm just wondering how much of a difference it would make at the end of the day.

It wouldn't make a difference to the current number of debris items in orbit today. It would make a big difference in the potential number of items in a few decades.
