Also the world is not a zero sum game. I win when we both win. In a competitive environment it isn't necessary for someone to win and someone to lose. If someone else wins and I "lose" then I get enjoyment from the other person's win.

Comparison to others doesn't help how we feel. The only person we can compare ourselves to is ourself. If I ask myself, "Am I better today than yesterday?", if the answer is yes then I say great and let the thought go. If the answer is no, then I have an opportunity tomorrow to do what I can and do better.
