The paper picks 1980 as the start year…interesting because the recent HN article about obesity-caused-by-contamination post also picked 1980: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27936016

Perhaps spurious, but could be seen as more evidence for the contamination theory, since depression and weight gain are correlated.
