The fact that UTF-16 is bad doesn't mean you should necessarily get rid of it. We keep all sorts of bad stuff around, like C strings (and C). You can certainly decide you don't care about any existing code, and that anyone using UTF-16 based platforms (Windows, .NET, Java, JavaScript) should get a bad experience, but I don't think the case for that is as obvious as you believe it is. |
