Iran celebrated the 2500 year anniversary of the founding of the Achemenaid empire in 1971: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2,500-year_celebration_of_the_... I wonder if such a focus on pre-Islamic history would fuel the 1979 revolution. Nowadays, people are celebrating the 2500 year anniversary of Salamis (and Thermopylae, which is overrepresented in its significance). |
