When I started out in the early 90's, I did digital prepress. We had a leaf back for a Hasselblad. You had to take the RGB channels separately, one at a time, so it was only useful for catalog or product work. It was really amazing at the time, considering we no longer had to do drum scans which were very very very very slow and labor intensive, plus no more waiting for the slide film to process.
