This is such an interesting concept coming from a different industry (architecture) into software development. I find it hard to be so disconnected to the outcome of what I am making. I definitely care about the projects that I am a part of, otherwise it just feels mechanical. I want to work to solve a problem that I care about, feel like I am doing something more meaningful than just implementing another warehouse logistics crud app. Don't get me wrong, I have gotten pretty decent at making crud apps, but I find it so much more compelling if the crud app is making education more efficient, vs another problem that I don't care about. I just find it so foreign that software engineering culture holds your mentality more often than not, where the tools that you are working with are advertised more than the problem you are solving. Not good nor bad, just an observation. |
