The parent comment was helpful for me, a developer who hasn’t written much C and didn’t read Variable Length Array as a proper noun.
Also an Object Pascal/Delphi feature.

Where they work just fine.

In Delphi they were on heap and also Delphi was incapable of doing anything kernel mode.
Which is to say, they work exactly as well as in C.
