Sorry, but I have no knowledge and do not understand what "editing remote" means? What is the use case?

The source files are in a shared network directory, but VS code (the editor) is on my machine? Or is it something different?

Where would the compiler reside? Will the Compile/Build be executed on my machine?

The source files can be on a remote machine but you still get great GUI editor support.

Of course emacs supported remote editing since mid 90's ;)
