How did Hong Kong's security forces become dominated by those loyal to a totalitarian government?

How do those 500 police officers reconcile the ethical and moral divide that separates them from the rest of the Hong Kong population?

Have is been duped into thinking that Hong Kong really wants to remain independent? I am wondering because it seems like no one in their government supports that.

So while the government is only supported by a minority, it is a quite large minority.

Those police officers most likely have a support network of friends and family who think they're doing a good job.
