"Do it for yourself" is great creative advice that I've gradually arrived at on my own. I have been creating something that I have shown to maybe a couple hundred people and none of them connected with it on any meaningful level. To me, it's the best thing ever and I'm obsessed with it, but no one else seems to get it or like it. But somehow I keep the project alive exactly because I really am doing it for myself. Yes, I do hope that others will also grow to love it eventually, but it's not the main motivation. If it were, I would have gone crazy by now. |
