It's interesting that the west coast of Canada only has one cable and it's to connect to Alaska.

Similarly I was surprised by the "Gulf of Mexico Fiber Optic Network". It's apparently operated by BP for offshore gas and oil drilling

It seems like W .CA should have links to Seattle-Portland-SF-LA-San Diego, Russia, Japan, and China.
