Any good website/app/project ideas you want to share?
2 points by ThrowAway90 1841 days ago
I spend most days working on uninspired work. Then it comes to 6:30pm, I try to think of good ideas for a website/app/project to work on for myself that might one day turn into a business, but I can't think of any

Do you have any ideas which you are willing to share, maybe ones that you are not wanting to do/don't have time to do them/you are already busy with another project

Any suggestions are much appreciate

Thank you!

I think there is a lot of undiscovered country left when it comes to website builders.

The incumbents like WordPress and Squarespace probably want you to think that the market is saturated and the problem has been solved, but that couldn't be further from the truth. They just have huge marketing budgets.

Truly simple, easy to use website builders barely exist.

Here on HN most people would consider Squarespace laughably easy to use, but that is simply not the case for true tech novices.

Bringing websites to an audience of real tech illiterates is a real challenge that hasn't been solved yet.

One of the, if not the most difficult part of doing this, however, is convincing the world that easIER website builders are possible, when there are businesses with hundreds of millions of dollars in marketing budgets pretending that their solutions are the easiest ever, making anyone tech illiterate immediately suspicious of those claims. So you have to find other ways of marketing yourself.

I'm trying to do that very thing at the moment and it's as interesting as it is difficult.

This is an awesome insight, thank you very much for sharing. It is much better than the uninspired ideas that I have been working with: tinder clones etc <yawn>
i want a simple walking app that does one thing that no other step counter does -- announces how far i've gone.

so, let's say, every 500 steps or so, i want it to interrupt whatever audio i have playing to say something like:

"<chime> <quick pause> you have now traveled five hundred steps" ... "<chime> <quick pause> you have now traveled one thousand steps"

on android you can supposedly just rely on the internal step counter mechanism of the hardware.

i currently use this one:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pedometer.step...

if you make it, i will be your first purchase of $5/yr. i'm serious.

UI-wise it prob just needs to show the number of steps you've gone.
