This is an interesting article that's worth discussing. From my understanding, there's no specific rule about anything like that. "Show HN is for something you've made that other people can play with. HN users can try it out, give you feedback, and ask questions in the thread." [0] Generally people on here care only if there is an issue about a conflict of interest in some way.
