Ask HN: Does location-based search discovery exist?
2 points by saratonin 1851 days ago
Question or potentially actionable idea for a developer: Is there a way to find out what people in a specific geographical area are searching for? The only methods of doing search research that I'm aware of require starting with keywords or sites, or using Google Trends, but Google Trends topics are way too broad and not geographically specific enough. If this truly doesn't exist and there is a way to create this function, I imagine it wouldn't make sense as a stand-alone, but rather, an added function to a tool like Semrush. If you make it, please let me beta

Google trends ?
Yup: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore

But, the info you get is very broad and sampled, so you can't drill down to any city/ZIP; you have to choose from regions they've provided.
