That act is all backwards. The problem isn’t that the government can acquire data they oughtn’t have access to. The problem is that anyone can acquire this data. The bill needs to be turned around. Ban the sale of this data. Preferably also ban the possession and use of this data. |

And doing it in advance solves a few important logistical problems - not least of which is giving states a chance to do sanity checks on results.
