Malaysia’s dominant ethic group is Malay, which is defined by the constitution as someone who “professes the religion of Islam, habitually speaks the Malay language, and conforms to Malay custom.” It is this group that the constitution favors. (Incidentally, it is illegal to convert out of Islam in Malaysia.) The indigenous locals, Chinese, and Indians are all minorities. |
