Machine learning is a tool for solving certain tasks.
Usefulness lies in finding new places to use those techniques. The hype is about predictions that machine learning (or AI in hype-speak) will be able to do things that it is currently not able to. Right now machine learning seems like a useful tool for certain tasks but not as revolutionary as e.g. the invention of the car. |
