This doesn't fix the issue, many people have had success with similar methods when running with the built-in display off. There's no getting around this with the built-in display active, or with any two non-matching resolution displays.

My specific issue was it was still hot and noisy even when the built in display was closed. I'm sure other people have 1440p monitors and would love this partial solution.
