They're terrible. Dr. Cate Shanahan is a great ressource for learning about this. I can provide further references but based on my research and experience I'd say they are the biggest contributor to the chronic disease epidemic.

Nice, that just scratches the surface. Naturally, you probably won't agree with everything he says, but I've learnt a lot from the way he approaches questions.
