This is true and the author is right in my view but it's also important to keep in mind "do not utter harsh truths casually".

If you have to deliver information to somebody by all means do it directly but do it thoughtfully and if necessary with some compassion.

This is an important point. Communication is not about dumping information on your conversational partner, but about doing so timely, appropriately, and with empathy.
Yup, this is what I was getting at. Wielding the truth as a blunt tool isn't productive. I'm looking to strengthen my relationships and build trust through honesty, not fool around with 'radical honesty' for the sake of it.
