Any reason why you went with GPL.

Unless you only want to encourage open source video games, this is much more restrictive than an outright commercial license. Have you considered dual licensing at all, maybe I send you $1,000 or so and I get to use this in a commercial project.

I absolutely love rts's , I love looking at a project like this but I don't know if I'd be open to developing an Open source One

$1000 seems low for using years of work in a commercial project . If you wanted to commercialise it you'd have to do revenue share, surely?
In that case why wouldn't I just use Unity.

For $1,500 a year or whatever, I get to use one of the most supported game engines in the world. Revenue share becomes a very bad idea if you actually expect the game to do well
