This is a manifestation of the general rule, "don't do things that scale" - at least if you're not the absolute best in the world at what you do. Whenever something has high fixed and low marginal costs, this sort of winner-take-all distribution results. It's the exact same for indiegames, smartphone apps, or digital music. |
