I've seen this approach being implemented (a lot clunkier, less polished and slower) in 2010-era stock market websites like https://tradingdesk.finanzen.net - essentially in highly-configurable dashboards that a user changes often (think: every few minutes.)

Indeed the website you linked to is laggy. But if it wasn't, do you think it's bad paradigm for such website? To me seems like it makes sense. How it compares to the more modern, polished, ones?
