This system of paying for the amount of trash you produce is not used in all of the Netherlands. Currently roughly 50% of all municipalities do this, with a trend towards broader adoption. The rest have a flat annual taxation based on the number of people in a household (trash is limited to whatever you can fit into the bin). Separate collection for organic matter, paper, and plastic also differs from municipality to municipality. In mine organic matter and paper has its own bin, but we have no separate plastic bin, and glass goes in public glass recycling containers. |
