Its disappointing that Hacker News can't seem to see past the fad. NFTs have some really interesting use cases. They're basically a digital deed or certificate of authenticity you can't just copy (at the very least it would be very difficult to do so). The patronage of art is just one use case. An interesting use for NFTs is having objects "know" who owns them by seeing which address holds its NFT. The object can then perform tasks or give access only if you can provide a signature.
