1. You won't get a kernel update that doesn't contain zfs support, as the distro contains this.
2. Even if you install a manual kernel from outside of ubuntu you wont' brick it.. you'd just have to boot the old kernel. btrfs and zfs are.. not comparable. |

It's supposedly meant to "just work" but out of the box it did not. Which is a very common story with ubuntu sadly.
