I just got a Kobo and went with Plato[1] over KOReader and it's been great for my purposes so far. Fewer features, but it has everything I need and performs even better than KOReader (it's written in Rust by the developer of bspwm/sxhkd and isn't carrying as much legacy baggage as KOReader, which has a longer history) with a very straightforward interface.
