Google Analytics has many more use cases than looking at vanity metrics to be replaced by a shell script. Something like https://hockeystack.com gets closer.

The landing page claims that it doesn't, but their own site has this message:

So apparently, their own software isn't good enough to optimize their own site. At least, not without cookies.

Other tracking scripts like facebook's require cookies unfortunately, so a banner is a must
