There are a ton of enterprise bidding/auction tools out there. Most of them are domain-specific so we never hear about them unless we are in that industry. Before you jump in headlong have you thought about compiling a landscape (google spreadsheet) of existing solutions?

Thanks for the input. Infact I have made a list, but most of them are not accessible to play around with. Any easy hack that has enabled you to do this?

Also there are hardly any good solutions that exist for the SMB market.

Generic solutions are hard to get traction with.I think go-to-market is a tough one. There is so much to unpack here and perhaps you have already thought of it but ping me, details in profile, if you wanna chat more.

Just give them all a call, tell you are looking for a solution for your client and ask for a lengthy demo,so you'd get an idea what it's like.
