Bitcoin mining uses less energy than video gaming. And because mining can happen anywhere, it tends to use clean energy or energy trapped at power plants that would otherwise go to waste, so it's CO2 footprint is much, much less than video gaming. Other things that contribute more to global warming than Bitcoin include: the meat industry, Christmas lights, and the mining and supply chain around gold. |
