> Patel wrote about the end of scarcity, so technology that brings scarcity back seems like a panacea. Perhaps Swift’s 2014 vision was simply ahead of its time? If our technology allows us to now distribute media in a post-scarcity environment, isn't that a good thing for culture? It's absolutely ridiculous that artificially reintroducing scarcity is seen as a good thing. It also serves as yet another example of the reliance of profit on artificial scarcity, and the irrationality of the system- as well as the lengths to which people will go, just to desperately preserve an outdated model. |
