The fact of the matter is not everyone can hire amazing programmers. Average is average; this isn't Lake Wobegon.

Most startups would be better off figuring out how to get the best out of the average programmer, than investing in the search costs of that diamond in the rough. If you find one, awesome, but the plan shouldn't revolve around it.
