We use Lambda@Edge so we can access Cloudfront’s true client IP value as well as geo data and pass it on to the origin

But cloudfront already sends that original ip back in a standard header.

Yeah and you can ask Cloudfront to add some geodata as well (with headers such as CloudFront-Viewer-Country, etc)
