It seems to me that the words "sexism" and "racism" are perceived differently by society. Compared to "racism", "sexism" is more often understood as "institutional sexism" rather than "personal prejudice against a different gender". The statement "[some country] is sexist" is usually less controversial than "[some country] is racist", as the former gets more interpreted as "women have it worse in [some country]" but the latter as "people in [some country] are prejudiced towards other races". |
