They have actually been in this area for quite a while. My first real dev job was at HDS after they acquired Archivas back in 2007. We built off the Archivas foundation to deliver petabyte-scale object storage for big enterprise/govt, kind of like selling S3 in a box for companies to put in their datacenter.
