False dichotomy? It could be that his opinions were appropriately constrained by an editor previously and now is showing worse opinions.

I would classify that as "organic" criticism.

To put another way: are people on twitter criticizing him because they don't like his articles, or because other people on twitter have said that you shouldn't like his articles?
