Molecular dating studies place a hard limit on index cases at October 2019. Anything earlier and the virus should have mutated more than it has. Someone who broke into a Wuhan coronavirus research lab in summer 2019 and broke containment of our hypothetical SARS-CoV-2 precursor virus samples would have been infected too early for our timeline. |
