I'm assuming the Facebook dashboard is measuring user connections, while the Akamai measures everyone connecting to any Akamai resource. Apples to oranges really, and the Facebook one is not gonna give a fair view of the current state, better to trust dashboard from companies providing infrastructure instead of user-facing apps.
