I wouldn't discount Minecraft either! Roblox is probably better for younger children, but I remember being 10 or so and setting up a Minecraft server so my friends and I could play. Also, if the kid is ambitious, then Minecraft is a stepping stone to Java programming (which may or may not be a good thing overall). |

And, IMHO, Java is highly overrated anyway.
