I think it all depends on what kind of software you are making / supporting. The game industry is a famous example where scrum just does not work. There are to many pipelines and to many disciplines, and everything depends on shipping. So in the game / VFX industry there is most of the time a strict waterfall structure that does not help you to do scrum. If the hours a team is spening on a sprint is not the same every time then you are just using postid notes to track the progress. (crunch hours are unfortunately very common in the game industry) So in general I would say, Scrum/Agile is definitely beneficial if you are shipping multiple versions of a product. But if its all about shipping 1 final product or if the time team members are going to work on it is not specified then you are just using it to track you progress and it is therefor not any better then good communication. |
