To clarify this, they see themselves as part of the Chinese civilization (華人 = hua ren). A lot of Chinese diaspora do as well, for example Chinese Singaporeans are part this cultural sphere. Taiwanese people have another term for Chinese Mainlanders (大陸人 = da lu ren). |
