I think what OP meant was why go the self-hosted route for the feed reader but not the read-later application.

Still need to find a good read-later alternative, could be an idea. Pocket is just my long-used application, got so used to it

I tried Wallabag [0] but it didn't feel as polished as Instapaper, or Pocket. Especially the mobile application.
