In my small town diner there was a prominent sign: "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". My mother, who had traveled 1000 miles to campaign for black voter registration (this was the '60s), always bristled when she saw the sign, but kept her peace in public. It was the only diner in town. One mind-boggling trend in my lifetime has been the embrace of liberals -- formerly so fiercely protective of free speech and equal rights -- for censorship and silencing of unapproved narratives by giant corporations and the agencies of state. |
