I think Python's batteries included approach still matters a lot, because many users (myself included) have to work from locked up workstations, with awful tech support, no local administrator privileges, and draconian policies forbidding installation of not previously vetted software. For example, not long ago a colleague requested a Orange (data mining software) install. Corporate IT took more than six months to validate it and fullfill the request. To avoid hassle like that, the most you can get from just the initial install, the better. |
