I thought about this too. It appears he may have left December 9th, https://asia.nikkei.com/Politics/Turbulent-Thailand/Germany-..., though https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vajiralongkorn#Reigning_from_B... doesn't mention this yet.

I thought he may have spent the majority (or close) of his time since 2016 there. This article confirms he's welcome to return, doesn't need a visa, and is able to stay as long he wants. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-germany-thailand-king/tha...

Undoubtedly he feels much safer in Germany considering his popularity.
