I feel that right now, there's a lot of people conflating the status quo with the way they think things ought to be. I've seen a lot of comments that act authoritative about the legal consequences, but heavily editorialized to say "the government shouldn't". I'm not going to state my personal stance, because it's complicated and frankly, I haven't put enough thought into it to be comfortable presenting it. But, you (the reader) should be willing to forgo your kneejerk reaction (if you have one) and think about the consequences of what you're proposing when discussing changing the status quo and desired legislature to "solve" these issues. |
